Like it or not, lots of modern technology started in the department of defense (i.e., the internet, GPS, jet engines, microwave ovens, super glue, duct tape).

I'm biased, but hugely supportive. If we believe the West writ large is a good environment for humanity and that actors are trying to threaten that (states, groups, individuals, etc.) having more smart people work on our collective defense is a good thing. I think YC is good at finding smart people.

It’s unfortunately necessary we (me?) hoped that software would somehow bring the best of the world together and we wouldn’t need a military industrial complex foolish me so now we live in a world where legacy military companies *might* be as outdated as legacy finance if we want the West to maintain a strong militaristic position in the world, we need the tech VCs to help build the next wave military complex

To think you don’t need defense tech is to buy into the ZIRP induced Fukuyaman trap that Liberalism has won in the west H/t @bravojohnson

Disrupting the incumbents in defense tech is a huge opportunity and it’s reasonable to assume the Lockheed Martin’s of the world are not going to lead the charge on ai and other complex software required for the future.

It’s really just a shift from bold, disruptive innovation to more stable, potentially controversial revenue stream tied to the military-industrial complex.
