It's wild to me how long we tried to make the process of providing feedback on documents live within the constraints of a document itself rather than building better feedback mechanisms.

I recognize a lot of this had to do with technical constraints, especially as someone involved in a lot of document/communication-related HCI work a decade ago. But, for a thing we use so often, it really felt like we were pursuing a limited view of what was possible.
