I moved to Bay Area 3 months ago and I often hang with Japanese community here. I get compliments on the fact that I speak Japanese and that makes me really happy that I'm still able to practice it. This reminded me that last year I wrote about how I learned Japanese and wanted to bring it back again.

What I’ve heard about learning Japanese is that it’s easy at the start but gets difficult later; which is about the reverse situation compared with Chinese. Has it been your experience?

For me have been the opposite. I went to Japan without prior knowing or hearing Japanese language. Anime or games helps a lot in that sense to get familiar with the hearing. I noticed a lot of difference with my classmates who had a lot of knowledge on anime, music and dramas. So once I went there, I started to watch anime and start to get better at listening therefore speaking. Writing is always difficult trying to remember the kanjis is a different sport, I still don’t have proficiency in this.
