Alright ITAP fam. 3 hour flight to Texas.  

I’ve been a photographer for 14 years.

It is not my main source of income.

I reside in Los Angeles.

I mainly shoot landscapes and cityscapes.

Ask anything you want to know. Will answer anything as long as it’s appropriate.

So I have an arrangement with one of the main resorts there so I’m usually there at least once a year to which I will generally stay 3-4 days. There is something every season which keeps me coming back

Do you spend every weekend in Yosemite? You seem to have new amazing photos from there every week!

Balance with everything is key. Work, family and photography are my big 3 buckets in life. Kids have taken time away from photos but I make it a point to still get out for my own sanity. Wife and I able to balance our own stuff separately as well which makes a difference

Monetization started with selling prints / licensing from my website which I still do today. Occasional money from contest wins. Biggest game changer has been NFTs and crypto. I’ve been fortunate enough to bring in more in this space in the last 2 years than the last 14 years In trad methods

Never once got put down for it. Those who do aren’t secure enough with what they do themselves. My reasoning for not going full time is id have to support my passion with other types of photography I am not as fond of and essentially it would take some flame away from the photography I do love

Cool to hear it's not your dayjob! How do you balance dayjob and photography? How did you start monetizing your photos and do you ever get shit for not being a full time photographer? Sorry that's 3 questions 😂

Been Nikon since inception as my dad has one and I was able to use his lens. Not a huge camera geek. It does what I need it to. My bodies are getting very outdated tho and I am curious on mirrorless maybe when I need to replace one day

Yosemite is my favorite NP. My home area around the southbay is where i shoot  a lot of my cityscapes from where im able to see both the ocean in front and the mountains behind my city. Makes for a very interesting composition

All my photos look terrible, most of them are cracked on gradients, mostly a disaster...

But, I noticed that the photos of some fellow photographers looks GREAT!

Meaning that they are the wrong color/tone? Having a calibrated monitor makes a big difference. Selective processing does as well ie less global contrast and saturation and more selective color grading. It’s also about the light. Using backlit scenes to your advantage for the natural and not processed light

Hi Brandon, Do you do anything special to the yellows when post processing your images? I always have a hard time getting these right.

I’m extreme on both ends. Give me 14mm for the vast landscapes and give me my sigma 150-600 to compress the elements of a scene. A lot of my cityscapes are shot at 300+ mm

I think it depends on the scene. My goal is realistic with pop. A scene with huge dynamic range requires a lot more blending to get it to look the way our eyes can see it. Astro work also takes a ton of work and a photo def is not what your eyes see at night. A single exposure may only take 30 min in post
