Humankind Candles

I was lucky enough to get a last minute solo dining reservation at Rijks, a one Michelin star restaurant here in Amsterdam. I noticed them cleaning the amuse bouche off with clear liquid, and ended up asking my waiter what they used to clean the glasses and plates before serving.

but...I was curious and kind of waiting you talk about... how was the food? 👀

IRL: Creative Director who makes movies and ads.

This was just lunch, so I only did four courses. I thought it was good, exactly what you expect from a 1 star. Technically excellency was there, could’ve had more soul or storytelling🤷🏻


But also I’m recovering from a cold so my palette is weird

I've done some 1 and 2-star experiences, and the anxiety beforehand sometimes messed with the whole thing (as anxiety tends to do), I really love food lol. 

But tbh, from my overall experience, there were more 1-star experiences I liked than 2-star ones. 
And then some 2-stars were just stellar.

I do have two 2-star that I loved!

Both in Brazil, both in Rio de Janeiro (my home country and city, I miss it so much 🥲)

Oro and Lasai, in no specific order as they are very distinct

I’ve done 1, 2, and 3 stars before. 2 stars are just a miss for me. Like a silver medal in the Olympics 🤣 

I feel like 1 stars are fighting for their life, and 3 stars are institutions, those qualities make them good.
