Update on channel decentralization We've talked about this on the last few dev calls (next one is tomorrow at 10am PT; @v will cast the link), but we're in a bit of a holding pattern for channels. The recent changes to allow moderation tools like @automod, @airstack.eth, @botornot have worked well enough. But we haven't seen a lot of growth of new channels generating new content for the last couple of months. So rather than fully decentralize channels in their current form (and have it ossify), we want to continue iterating on the primitive with the hope of finding something that 1) significantly increases interesting and entertaining content on the network 2) starts to drive retained user growth ("I signed up for this app to join this community").

From all my time here, I still think people follow other people more than follow channels. This might be because that’s how it works on major web2 social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter, so people unconsciously replicate that behavior here.
