Haven't we already seen many smart technologies that aren't widely adopted simply because they might threaten the cycle of needing to replace devices that no longer charge properly, thereby potentially harming industries addicted to consumer upgrades?

Seems very possible. At the same time scaling up any technology is a work of titans. We acclaim inventors, but it is innovative entrepreneur and operations people who make it real for all of us.
