Sauron- because he represents the absolute corruption of power and the ceaseless desire for dominion over all, casting a shadow of fear and despair across Middle-earth.

There's only one right answer and it's the joker. It's one of the most transcendent villains of all time and spans comic books, movies and TV. Plus Heath Ledger nailed the role

Griffith from Berserk. Easily the most evil character in a medium I’ve read. Won’t repeat his misdoings on here

After Tolkien wrote Lord of the Rings, (which had some pretty bad guys ie Sauron) he talked about how the real villain he wanted to cast light on was *Industrialisation. There’s many instances where the good guys are fighting the natural world being polluted that people really see it now as a warning for the future.

Hannibal Lecter from "The Silence of the Lambs" stands out for me. His brilliant mind, unsettling charm, and manipulative prowess make him pretty unforgettable. Think this cements his status as an iconic villain in both literature and the film.

okay I said Christopher Walken, and he is not fictional. So let's say Max Zorin from a View to a Kill.

Someone already said this. But it has to be Thanos. He really believed in his cause. He believed he was doing the right thing. In his mind he was helping humanity which makes him even more scary

My favorite villain is the joker. Not only does he have no remorse for killing those who help him, but because of the abuse he endured as an early age he feels like need to abuse the rest of the world. His so intelligent with how he strategically sets up Batman for failure
