CoinMarketCap and Coingecko approach to token tickers is like Yahoo!'s original directory.

Dexscreener's approach to token tickers is closer to Google PageRank, albeit simpler. You can name a webpage the same thing, what matter is the social proof (as measured by market cap, liquidity, trading volume).

Directory works when things are small (relatively) and there's friction to create. As token creation becomes frictionless, you need search and a good algo.
