Diet matters to a profound degree, also regular exposure and breaking in your epidermis after being hidden by clothes all winter are important

I'm 100% Irish and have had skin cancer before so I can't go a single day without sunscreen.

Though I do think that you can totally live without it as you say if you acclimate yourself appropriately
