Something I was thinking about as I was taking a walk w/ @ismene today:
I'm overwhelmed by this desire, to help my kids succeed. Ofc I want the best for them. I don't want them to worry or stress too much, I want them to be happy and not be too stressed.
Many plants, in the face of extreme cold, or dryness stop growth. Then there's a type of plant, called extremophytes. While most plants produce a stress hormone that acts like a stop signal for growth, with extremophytes, in the face of stressful factors, it accelerates its growth in response to its own stress hormone.
Danger is a fertile ground for growth, of course it is dangerous for a reason, and shouldn't be taken lightly. But loving my kids perhaps is going to be sometimes about letting go of this desire to control and engineer success for them at all costs. At times, they are going to have to face stress and become their own person, and solve their own problems
Yeah, this is going to be a lot harder than I thought 17 replies
