/ 🎩 One of the best things about Web3 is composability. As an artist it reminds me of Lev Manovich’s theory of remix culture. Base→D[erivatives] is a new project that plays directly on these concepts. You remix NFTs and track the provenance of changes. At launch it will use $DEGEN. Here’s how it works:

/ 🎩 The smart contract takes other NFTs as Accessories, like the Habedasher Hats. These can be set so that a royalty is paid to the owner of the Accessory (e.g. if someone uses a hat and you own the NFT, they send you Degen). Users visit the Dapp and see all of their NFTs. They can then add Accessories to them.

/🎩 Then the user can mint a Based Derivative NFT which shows their original with the accessories. Here’s where things get interesting. We use on-chain SVGs and IPFS, so once minted a user can go back and edit their NFT. They can move, add, or remove accessories, WITHOUT minting again!

/🎩 You can also buy from secondary and remove the original NFT image and replace it with your own. The project tracks the provenance of all these changes. The number of Based Derivatives will be limited, so this is an art project about remix culture. Getting certain accessories may also be difficult…

/🎩 Accessories can have a lot of parameters. They can be limited in totalSupply, they can require paying any ERC-20, or they can be gated with an ERC-20 / ERC-1155 / ERC-721. So for example, you might need to have a certain ERC-20 balance or hold a certain NFT to mint rarer accessories.
