I used to run a business using obsolescent scanning hardware from the late 90s and constantly needed to shuttle files between current gen and G3/G4 Macs running OS 9. it was seriously painful because the G3/G4 had USB 1 ports (500KB-1MB/s) so Firewire 400 was mandatory. for several years I had a huge collection of Firewire drives and 800/400 adapters, just for this purpose.
