Not needing a new contract for each one, not being tradable permanently? Potentially something like short lived state channels, ability to trade during a shorter amount of time to make them more akin to hash tags. Haven’t spent much thought in the technical details, but permanent individual storage feels like overkill.

Time-boxing the meme basically. I can see some value in reviving a meme from 3 years ago, but 99.99% of memes are relevant for a very small time window. Having a structure which lives on the blockchain forever once it has been opened feels like it is a massive waste and something that kind of pollutes the global namespace of ideas.
