What I aimed out to do in writing this article though was helping elucidate that successful memecoins in the longer term are actually much harder than they're made to seem by the general public. I'm not saying that the difficulty being unknown is intentional but I do believe people will be better off trading when they understand what it actually takes to plan out a good memecoin launch. The biggest meta of 2024 has absolutely been memecoins in web3. Some people are fans. Other people aren't. What I chose to write about for CoinDesk on this one is that regardless of where you stand on memecoins, they're simply not easy money. Especially easy as the way people are made to believe when they think about trading them. Unlike other critics of memecoins, I'm absolutely in favor of people trading them as much as they'd like, and I do believe if you're good about them, they do seem like the easiest way to generate large amounts of personal capital very quickly. In light of all the high FDV, low float infra tokens that have launched this year at bloated valuations that leave no upside for retail, it only made sense that memecoins would take off. A place where retail could earn double and triple digit on their money in a short period of time.

In the past week and a half there's been so many speculations as to what happened with Haliey Welch aka Hawk Tuah and $HAWK. From the moment the token launched, multiple things just didn't seem to add up to me. We quietly launched a new https://www.coindesk.com last Sunday. This was the culmination of 8 months of work and countless hours. Our engineering team went above and beyond, with the last 5 weeks of the push seeing many of them working 7 days a week and all night long in some cases. I'm thrilled at how well it has gone. We have released a hotfix daily and still have over 190 tasks and bugs to address, but the site is crazy fast now and our tech and tools are so much better than what we had before. I'm finally taking a holiday after working 11 days straight, which is nothing compared to what many of our engineers did. It's really nice to take a breather, though, and celebrate what we have done.

Have been involved in China's chain the past few weeks and doing a small writeup of notes to share. The official announcements will happen on Sep 13th. 1. Multichain system built on solidity. Early discussion about compatibility with foreign chains, earliest announcement Q2 2025. Connected to the tianping chain of internet courts. Standard fees will be done through a digital RMB system synced with alipay/wechat 2. The chain will operate as a public chain with "diverse node types" supporting various segments of the industry. There will be a variety of nodes split by industry, city, and other criteria. Nodes will be the differentiator for projects who want to access read/write records onchain. Think of this as a bookkeeping node. 3. No mention of the word "NFT" which has been replaced by Digital Assets. These digital assets must be government certified. All assets will be synced to the National Culture Big Data System, the official infrastructure of China's national cultural infrastructure.
