I think these are fundamental social contracts that are hard to change, and content coins don't fit neatly into them today.

It could be collect but the aesthetics are not dialed in. Why am I collecting 1,123,890 of these? Will having this give me smile when i see it next? Will someone have a conversation with me about this?

It could be invest (or speculate), but where do gains come from? Creators don't want to pump for good reason, so the best hope is that it becomes a meme despite the creators intent. Pump works because meme creators are unabashedly pumping. There also isn't any scarcity or exclusivity (literally billions of things!) 

It could be sponsor but it feels so indirect. The creator doesn't even know who is buying their coins in most cases and they don't get any status in return.

And there's no case for change here. 

It's as if I owned a shoe factory and wanted to boost sales by suggesting we ditch spoons and start eating soup with sneakers. There might be someone out there who’d find it dope, but ultimately we'd all be better off if I just focused on making better products instead of devising a flimsy use for them. Hard to coin that as innovative.

I can’t say I care very deeply about contentcoins per se, but this unbridled desire to turn everything into coin speculation is destructive.

I don’t think contentcoins are necessarily bad (they can be fun for a week), I think the logic behind them is wrong. Seems like coin speculation has become such an ordinary source of easy profit that it turned into the default frame of reference. But it’s a game where one person's gain is tied to another's loss. Crypto already has a bad reputation, and each story like that brings to closer to being irredeemably bad.
