Much of it comes down to simply paying attention to what others are casting. If you don’t do it, then you’re bound to share the same thing for the fifth time, needlessly assume bad intent or just miss something that’d actually interest you. The “nice” replies are sometimes so knee-jerk that they are made even when some very unpleasant experience is described, which ends up being everything but nice.

Just to be clear, that was a generic “you”, I hope you didn’t take it personally! (or at least not in a bad way)

Fortunately I haven't seen too many "nice" replies on casts about unpleasant experiences (at least from accounts that I know to be humans), but I don't doubt that it happens sometimes.

I'm sure I miss a lot of things that would interest me, but that's unavoidable.

In any case, your point about reading the room is well taken!
