@notdevin.eth and his holy war on anti-depressants has never seen postpartum depression, ptsd, sad, etc what about pain medications for termally ill people? there are, for sure, drugs that shouldn't be needed, e.g. ozempic, blood pressure drugs, etc—this is managed by diet and exercise much better, yet requires systemic changes (i.e. making junk food less available) on the other hand, there's way more evidence that animal products cause harm than that seed oils cause harm (literally all the evidence says seed oils are safe)—yet people are afraid of seed oils while indulging on red meat daily the world is nuanced and there're no easy solutions

[2/2] They are also unrealistically marketed, and many people get the idea that you need them to heal your brain or fix some sort of chemical imbalance. They will not “heal” anything by themselves, they are just a tool to manage the symptoms, and it may very well happen that the side effects outweigh the benefits. However, sometimes a mediocre tool is better than no tool. While we know physical activity is indeed more effective in reducing depressive symptoms than the drugs, you cannot really expect a severely depressed person to react enthusiastically to that revelation and go hit the gym. Sometimes a pill is all that is realistically available to you as anything else would require an effort impossible to muster in a depressive state.
