Obviously one of the most spectacular views in all of Hawaii, and a spot I have visited many times over the years... however, there is a story behind this piece. I've camped at Koke'e, chased sunrise and sunset here more times than I can count, hiked the Nu'alolo Cliff Trail, and Annie and I brought her sister up one day to show her, and it was so foggy, you couldn't see your hand in front of your face. When we got married on Kauai, we had a rehearsal lunch in Poipu, and took the entire family up to the lookout to show them why we both chose to make Hawaii our home, and this was the view we were greeted with. Of all my trips to Kauai, it was the most spectacular blue sky day, and it is wrapped up with the memory of sharing it with our families the day before we got married, just over 10 years ago.

Yep, camping up top in Koke’e lets you get an early start on some amazing hikes, and if you want to camp at the beach at the bottom, the Kalalau Trail is a pretty famous hike… 11-miles, Crawler’s Ledge, and 2000’ elevation changes up and down the whole way out. It’s on my list, but I only did 3-4 miles in back in 2010… have to see how my knee heals up, and whether I can do it in the next few years.
