It just dawned on me that there is a whole purgatory section at the back of the fridge where borderline expired, suspiciously old, or plain unappealing food goes to die long before someone in the household finally decides to throw it away. This is like unspoken sociologically emergent group behavior

I try to make an effort to look specifically in that spot every week so it doesn’t get too out of control. Harder now because food is so expensive and i typically find myself eating and running out of food, but it still happens. It hit me when I noticed a random bowl, opened the bowl and saw a moldy yogurt parfait that I made for my mom close to a month ago that I had to wash 3 times before o could use it again.

I absolutely hate wasting food too, but the collaborative supply chain management of a fridge in a multi-diet household environment with unpredictable schedules is a NP-hard problem

Mine is starting to get better. My issue is that I’m still (even though I’m getting better) am a pretty picky eater, and my mom is not. We both switched to this process of eating less processed food (which has made things more difficult in the expense category) Our eating schedules are kind of different, but not terribly. I suspect my fridge situation might be getting better as I become more aware of the cost of food, and what I can eat and still be okay as far as my weight loss is considered. At least, I hope 😂. Now, when my sister and her family comes to visit. All bets are off.
