How soon before the NPCs in open world games are hooked up to GPT and can converse with you in character based on spoken audio from the player via a headset?

Makes a lot of sense, directionally, to use procedural generation not just for world-building but also content (e.g., quests) and NPC interactions. There are otherwise diminishing returns in manually crafting massive open worlds, story arcs, and character lines the “static” way that AAA studios have done in the pa

Pushing this idea further, a single player game could start from a common seed but then procedurally evolve into a bespoke experience for each player, with unique lore, dialogs, quests etc. that keep building upon themselves over time. In that sense the AI would play the role of a competent dungeon master in D&D games.
