One hill I will die on: bi-weekly should only ever mean twice a week. Semi-weekly (or fortnightly) is for once every two weeks. I will mute everyone who disagrees and pretend they never existed

You are probably right when it comes to bi-weekly. (And hence you are probably also right when it comes to semi-weekly) But when I am translating to my native language it feels wrong / it’s not how it was used in my career. I thought Google calendar uses the term bi-weekly but at least the current version doesn’t. So I blame a lot of not natives making English their company language and hence fucking me up.

But stop. Semi = half. Shouldn’t it then be semi-monthly = every 2 weeks/ every half month?

Almost but not quite. "Semi-monthly" means "half-monthly", and "monthly" is a rate of once per month. Hence, semi-monthly is once every two months.

My proud mid curve brain breaks (actually in both languages thinking about this). Too stupid to understand. Too smart to just accept. Mid curve 4 life 🫡
