As often, the tech itself is agnostic, and it’s the human handling of it that makes it a benefit or a hazard. Right now the jury is still out on the effects of microplastic and nanoplastic (MNP) on the brain and heart — but if the link to dementia and cardiovascular events is confirmed, then at the rate of increasing environmental concentration of MNP, we might well be facing a pretty major health crisis in the coming decades. Unlike the mad cow situation, this one won’t be easy to reverse and could take centuries https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-024-03453-1
