Am I getting old or are conferences getting tiring? They are always so fun while you’re there but after I feel like you need to sleep for a week.

It’s always been the case for me. I’m very comfortable and confident with public speaking and usually make a good show on stage and in the crowd, but a one-day conference *drains* my battery completely. I think the crowd just makes me subconsciously nervous and constantly on high alert, trying to listen actively to people, trying to be warm and attentive, trying to remember names and faces, etc. In my case, it’s just the consequence of being an introvert, i.e., someone who expends energy in a social setting — doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it, but it exhausts me quickly

And a change over time might be partly getting less young but also the novelty factor wearing off. I was impressed by the first TOKEN2049, now I find it obnoxious, for instance. The less glitzy, more serious conferences are easier on the senses, but still tend to all look the same after a while

1000% agree. Devcon was basically 10 days of meet + greet but it didn’t grind me down as fast as Token because it’s more real and I enjoyed my conversations more. It’s a byproduct of time spent with new people x quality of conversations x me getting older 😂
