Closed in what sense?
IdOS or Radix?

Both are permissionless

I don't know much about the ecosystems, so please feel free to educate me.

Generally when I see repeated references to whatever ecosystem is being used, it makes me think that these things work *only* in that ecosystem, which is a form of closedness. 

Also is idOS permissionless yet? This is what I read:

"A dStorage Network of Nodes secures the idOS. At first, run by building partners, then permissionless"

Same question for Radix dapp creation, and Radix wallet clients. This is what I read:
"While it is technically possible for anyone to build a fully dApp-capable wallet for Radix, such developments are not actively encouraged or supported, instead prioritizing the aggressive ongoing development of the integrated Radix Wallet experience."

re idOS  - There are a number of consortium members from different networks that are bootstrapping the initiative, so you'd need to be building on one of those networks to begin with and I would assume other networks would join as and when. I wouldn't call that a closed ecosystem though.

re Radix - again, anyone can build on Radix. The Radix mobile wallet is the preferred device for use on the network, but it's open source and anyone can build competing wallets. Indeed there is a community dev of a desktop wallet. Copper have also built their own institutional wallet.
