with the emergence and proliferation of AI-generated content, i believe we will have to shift from a default-true to default-false mental model when interacting with online content. but holy shit do you know how depressing it is to assume the worst in everyone, which to me is to assume that they are inauthentic?

The engagement debacle has lead people down the wrong path. Religious folks are more inclined to assume the best in people (as in perhaps assuming a person is genuine) You could surround your world with your closest friend (and spam everyone else I guess) but then that blocks off people who are genuine and who want to know who you are and discuss with you. I don’t think that will bring justice to any situation (and I would say it wouldn’t to your well being) assuming the worst. I suppose we have to trust but verify. And set a mutually agreed upon standard of verification.
