EigenLayer plans to distribute 86 million EIGEN tokens, around 5.1% of its total supply, as part of its Season 2 “stakedrop” campaign. The distribution will be split across three groups: Stakers and Operators: 70 million tokens are allocated to participants who staked and operated on the protocol. Ecosystem Partners: AVSs, liquid staking protocols, and other key contributors will receive 10 million tokens. Community Members: Early advocates and contributors will share 6 million tokens. The airdrop is based on a snapshot taken on Aug. 15, 2024, with claims opening on Sept. 17, 2024.

ME Foundation, the entity behind the NFT marketplace Magic Eden, announced the launch of its token ME on Thursday. Magic Eden joins a slew of other NFT marketplaces like Blur, LooksRare, X2Y2, Tensor and Sudoswap in launching a token. OpenSea is now the last major holdout in that group. ME will be claimable via the Magic Eden wallet on mobile and desktop, while details around its supply and distribution will be announced at a later date. US users will not be able to claim ME.

Telegram-based games like Hamster Kombat are setting the stage for true mainstream Web3 gaming adoption. Viral clicker game Hamster Kombat is among the “first generation” of games to facilitate large-scale Web3 gaming adoption, according to Yat Siu, co-founder and chairman of Animoca Brands. Siu told Cointelegraph in an interview: “With platforms like Telegram and TON [The Open Network], you have the ability to boost that [Web3 adoption] because they don’t have those restrictions. Those clear games are the demonstration of the first generations of games that will bring us mass adoption into Web3.” Hamster Kombat surpassed 300 million players at the end of July as it’s gearing up for what it claimed to be the “largest airdrop in the history of crypto.” Hamster Kombat is reportedly the third-fastest app in the world to reach 150 million users. The game might even be on its way to securing a Guinness World Record.

Cryptocurrency hackers have now stolen over $1.2 billion following hacks in August, raising further concerns about widespread crypto adoption. The crypto industry saw a total of $1.21 billion worth of digital assets lost to hacks and rug pulls year-to-date in 2024 across 154 individual exploits. This represents a 15.5% increase compared to the same period in 2023, when losses totaled just over $1 billion, according to an Immunefi report shared with Cointelegraph.

The American business magazine Forbes is Web3-ifying its exclusive membership offerings with a new partnership with the OKX Wallet that fast-tracks user applications to its digital community. At the center of this collaboration is the Forbes Legacy Pass non-fungible token (NFT), a digital collectible that opens up a token-gated, members-only world for major players, stakeholders and innovators in the Web3 space connect. On Aug. 29, the collaboration was announced, making OKX Wallet the only onchain wallet that will offer fast-track application review for the Forbes Legacy Pass, which has a total supply of 1,917. According to the announcement, OKX Wallet users will have priority applications via OKX drops. The NFT grants access to “high-profile” in-real-life events, influence on the Forbes Web3, and access to the Forbes Inner Circle, among other benefits.
