The AI data center boom is a great example of Jevons paradox that basically says: Efficiency doesn’t lower consumption, it often unlocks new ways to consume. Fossil fuel production is more efficient than ever and the assumption has been that if we lower emissions per unit of energy, we’ll have lower emissions. Nope. We now need 10x the units of energy. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jevons_paradox
