The refund mechanic looks really weird to me. Doesn't it just signal to hodlers to move on to the next thing?

As a contrast and/or baseline for comparison, $DEGEN launched with 70% reserved for the community, 15% for initial LP, and 15% for the team.

I'd argue this was ~85% "given back" in order to have goodwill + "prove" demand. And it's better project alignment to (i) drip it out over multiple years (ii) provide an ongoing ecosystem development fund onchain.

One may argue over the details of the stewardship, but surely a model that provides sustainability is better than one that throws it back to punters?

generally agree for longer term structuring of healthy sustainable projects.

But I think in this case specifically where people aped a presale knowing they may not get any of the money back, getting 80% back immediately + a token on top likely feels like an "anti rug" of sorts (short term).
