Used to be, the best signal of a cast worth reading was when @pugson, @bias, and @wake replied in the comments. @hyper and @purp as well. those guys were always smart, never phony, each with a distinct and sharp pov.

I was a little intimidated by their familiarity ngl, but yolo and fafo and fml I followed wake's account when he had <300 followers. About a month later, he followed me back. I distinctly recall I had just passed 100 followers and maybe that meant I was enough?

Fast-forward ~Dec 23. I started to notice wake had quite strong opinions about tokens. Deep, informed takes on project choices, delivered confidently and clearly. In early 24, he spoke on a podcast about this new coin Degen. At some point he was offered, and took, an opportunity to angel.

I assume, and still believe in my heart of hearts, that he earned his role permissionless-ly, through ideas and communication and knowing how to move.

/degentokenbase is the beating heart and soul of Farcaster's growth. @jacek is the father, and @wake was its consigliere. People flocked to his account for all the human reasons, and I deeply admire his grace and humanity through the entire journey.

If Farpcaster had two accounts like @wake, it would have 5x the DAU. If Wartscast had 20 accounts like @wake, it would without a doubt be a more worthwhile place to spend time and money than X.
