Something I noticed watching kids: When they make mistakes, they think it’s hilarious. So weird! Well that went wrong. When older humans make mistakes, they are sometimes ashamed, embarrassed or blame others, rarely think it’s funny I hope to laugh more when at my own future mistakes

I often think about the kids I admire most on Old Enough. They quietly talk themselves through hard and scary parts of their journeys. They don’t give up because they are their own motivational inner voice.

I think that more often than not we all have that inner voice that is supportive and believes in us. If anything over time it gets beaten down or doubted or muted, and if we can just allow it to be supported and nurtured we could have that same inner voice on the regular

my son writes pages + pages + pages. His teacher has been trying for months to get him to start with a thesis, add 3 supporting details, and wrap with a conclusion. She had multiple adults + kids try to pass the message to him. He got in a (verbal) fight with a classmate last week who told him to change his writing.

perhaps you can introduce the concept of writing styles. your child has a gift for writing without constraint and i would encourage this as much as possible. kids’ writing is so creative and funny! sometimes for class we need to write in an academic style, which is good for making clear and concise arguments.
