Feature request: mute channels Feels like the right time with the meme coin traction. I already unfollowed a bunch of people, but it’s still annoying.

@dwr.eth, @v, it would be great to hear your position on the “mute channels” & “mute keywords” features You had mentioned they were on your radar ~2 months ago, so perhaps you could tell us if they are being considered for a planned update or not at all? They appear to be the single most requested features

I believe the answer was “just unfollow people” and it works to certain extend. But with viral things like ticker you literally can’t get away from it

I definitely don’t want to unfollow people because they occasionally partake in degen, farcastles, or whatever the latest fad is; when they contain multitudes and are also insightful and interesting the rest of the time. It’s lazily applying a sledgehammer to a problem that requires a scalpel

Also, with the hyperchannelification of FC, we’ve moved from parsing people-based content to topic-based content (which I think gives a much better experience than X, for instance). But to remain consistent, the ability to filter content should adapt accordingly (i.e., mute topics rather than individuals)

I used to think echo chambers was the biggest problem as FC scaled. I silently supported slow-rolling the channel mutes feature. I think expecting the masses to "correctly" categorize their casts into channels is antithetical to art + human expression. I like word mutes, esp. for voluntary constructs like !attack

Mute words are a good option, but can have too many false positives, and some topics are hard to filter. Filtering by channel, and having strong social norms that noisy stuff should go in the appropriate channel (for people who are into that sort of thing) seems ideal.

Personally would mute a bunch of token/project-related channels. E.g. I’ve unfollowed /perl and stop playing it because I’m tired and not interested. But I still see the casts from time to time. (No disrespect to the creators, I’m not their audience) Recent example - /ticker
