One kinda fun thing about bans right now: the banned user's casts are only hidden from the channel feed. But to the banned user everything appears normal. They can still read the channel, post to the channel, other can even see their posts on their timeline. It's a shadow ban.

this is horribly perverse UX, especially for new users when the network's imperative is to retain and grow :trustworthy-white-man-standing-up-at-town-hall:

Which part? It’ll prob change anyhow but if anything I’d expect the current behavior to help those metrics compared to alternatives.

leaving people guessing about whether they are banned or not. Things are kinda complicated here. For many early users, we grew with the complexity, and also self-selected for nerd-snipability. For the next wave, it seems to be a lot harder, when maybe it should be easier?

Yeah, the same notification as 'warn and notify' with channel norms but says 'youre banned' is good imo. [ironically it would probably demotivate people more than just not telling them though :)]
