How do you answer the question βWhere are you from?β As an immigrant who lived in a few countries I find it quite confusing. I assume that the person wants to quickly understand my language/cultural background, so go with βIβm originally from β¦, lived in A, B, C and now I live in X.β

I used to lean hard into "but I was born in America" especially in my inner monologue. Had to work hard to unlearn that during the wave of anti-Asian violence. Now I think it's fair to let the asker do the work, especially in a multicultural city. In a less diverse place, I like your formulation a lot
