hmm, I read it in one go, normal speed, maybe below-normal focus (build job running in background, in the middle of a couple of async conversations online).

Interesting concept. Appreciate the craft and the execution. But didn't really enjoy the experience of reading the story.

Was the writing assisted by AI? if so, it kinda feels that way, like an uneven facsimile of a master, rather than a human writer that's mostly found their own voice and language. Was expecting something different tbh.

I found the tone and prose quality to be too varied. For my taste, only. Like, the high notes were quite high, but the mid notes were too "generic sci-fi"

All the roommates got together and decided to splt the cost of furniture three ways: 1/3 for a futon couch, 1/3 for a dining table, and 1/3 for a bar. We went separately to find the cheapest versions that would be acceptable, and threw a huge party with all our friends in New York.

It was quite a scene. My college friends all came early: a bunch of suburban Asian-American girls, and dorky dudes who were good enough at math to get jobs in NYC. The alcohol we had prepared for the party was ... sufficient.

Then the African dudes showed up. As polite and uptight, if not more so, than my college friends. But D (who we played ball with) worked for Heineken, and he brought a ton of alcohol.

Shortly afterwards, the random girls showed up, at the time of night that you'd expect them to show up.
