why is sugar pronounced "shugar" but other su- words aren't pronounced like they have an H? suspicious, submarine, succinct, supple, subtle, super, subject...

sure. another question is why is the final R in sugar pronounced like an H. someone please explain "schedule" too!

Ah, good one. But I don't understand the "shh" sound for some su- words! For "schedule" (and "school"), my guess is that English speakers didn't want to pronounce the back-of-the-throat "sch" sound of German, so they made it a cute "k" sound
