I think what people hated was that they openly violated the license of the repo that they forked from and raised money off.

ouch yeah chat gptâd the license and forking with nothing new added and flexing salary is super cringe. idk but i have very high moral standards to take these guys seriously. build something ppl want, ship in silence and let your users do the work to praise you. thatâs what got cursor and zed their superusers.

Yeah agreed, these guys have yet to really prove themselves beyond the salary + YC clout. Until I try it for myself I'd be willing to write off their appeal to credentialism as part of their initial marketing strategy. Something to be said about how some people treat FAANG, Coinbase and YC like Ivy League Universities, for better or worse.
