I think what people hated was that they openly violated the license of the repo that they forked from and raised money off.

I think people took issue with them breaking the license for the AI extension, Continue – they've since corrected it though

ouch yeah chat gpt’d the license and forking with nothing new added and flexing salary is super cringe. idk but i have very high moral standards to take these guys seriously. build something ppl want, ship in silence and let your users do the work to praise you. that’s what got cursor and zed their superusers.
