How do you decide which chain to build on?

Base is definitely the "go-to" nowadays, but why? It's not TVL because Arbitrum has a lot more and Base was the preferred long before it got to #2 in TVL. Users? Maybe but I don't see many solid stats backing that.

From my POV, it feels like its just vibes? But why? Doesn't it make more sense to do a thoughtful analysis of which chain is ideal for an app's needs?

Worth noting not a SINGLE response included the words “developer experience”, “user experience”, or “decentralized” 🤔

Making the blockchain invisible at /thirdweb

on one of the pods I heard someone mention its more reliable i.e uptime. I haven't built on either but worth asking. If the DX or reliability was not adequate, users would def move to the next chain. But to start of w/ I doubt there are many differences. outside the core team promoting projects.

Its hard to know who actually is a decision maker on optimism so when you need supports its much better to go with a team that has a face. Just personal preferences here. I'm usually actively in touch w/ founders/core team members if I choose to build on their chains.
