Yes! We went Tamagui/Expo/React Native originally. Rebuilt in Swift/SwiftUI/UIKit. There were many things we needed to do that we werenβt satisfied doing in React Native.

for what things would you not recommend native? Are notifications of pain without native?

Animations, video, many screens, anything realtime, multithreaded work, native access, CoreML, native APIs for security, and the list goes on. You should use React Native if your app is limited (reader/writer of simple text and images).
