Etymology "Kabuki" is the continuous form of the old Japanese verb, "kaboku", which is equivalent to the current Japanese word, "katamaku" meaning thin.  The outlandish acts and costumes were called "kabuki," and a man who possessed these characteristics was called a "kabukimono."

Kabuki is recognized as an important cultural asset of Japan and has been designated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO🎭
