Does anyone feel Stripe API is becoming complicated?

The last time I used it was almost ten years ago, and dev UX felt so good, but now it feels like a pile of features and abstractions that makes it hard to do simple stuff like SaaS subs with add-ons.

on this topic: what are the best stripe alternatives? building payments on Ribbon from the ground up and don’t want to overlook something better
