A library of books you’ve already read wouldn’t be of much use

The implication that there is a self separate from society, and that this is a natural state of being, can itself be considered a constraint imposed by western individualistic thought. I’m not entirely convinced that this external affirmation you posted offers freedom from social norms entirely.

Found a new used bookstore. What’s wild is I dreamt last night of looking through a bookshelf and finding a copy of Mason & Dixon

Is it possible to accurately gauge that an idea is modern without having a solid background in past ideas? Do the writers of the past have less to teach us than the ones who write today?

I discovered it recently and am very keen on trying it. Might start with just fp-ts Either and Option types and see how it vibes with other developers on the team

Promised myself I’d properly read Kant first before diving too far into later philosophers (which might very well take me a lifetime). And for Heidegger specifically I feel like I’d want to dive into Husserl first.

The more banal reason I imagine is that violent and sensational footage, along with the discourse around said footage, drives engagement, and that can drive ad revenue.

I think this mostly applies for stubborn people (most people, including me). Wisdom is learning the lesson without going through the pain.

Fascinating article bridging the works of Leibniz to the latest technologies being worked on now in the decentralized space; sometimes it takes hundreds of years of progress for an idea to find its methods of practical application! https://press.logos.co/article/obsessed-with-archives
