For the first time in 35 years, Manchester United finished the calendar year below the 7th line in the English Championship table. The team is in 14th place, in 1989 it was 15th.

The last time this happened was in the 1989/90 season, when Manchester United were in 15th place. Following the tournament, the team led by Alex Ferguson took 13th place, but qualified for the Cup Winners' Cup due to winning the FA Cup.
