I want to try something new with the pinned cast in /success: encouraging more long form discussion. Read the question below and answer thoughtfully. Let’s spark some real conversations here! There has been a lot of FUD recently about past failure and what that means for future success. With this in mind—what is the most important failure you’ve experienced in life and how did it shape the person you are today? For me, it was losing everything to drug addiction and the criminal justice system. My career, my health, my youth. But through that struggle, I learned to be a much stronger person—much more capable to take on the challenges of life. I wouldn’t change anything as all of it helped shape the person I am today. What about you?

I graduated college in 2009 into a horrible job market, such a rough time. I feel that.

It’ll get better, market is cyclical. Just figure out what you want to do in your early 20’s, no need to actually do it yet.

Now is the time to explore hobbies, when I was your age I was really into weightlifting, photography, and partying/drugs. Have some sweet photos from that time and glad I did it. Now is the time to figure out what you like to do and learn stuff.

My boss just told me this week he wasn’t at the position I was at till he was in his 40’s and I was like ok whatever but it kind of puts things in perspective. Everyone has their own journeys but have similar challenges along the way. Career progression will come in time.
