Beautiful symbiotic relationship! Sometimes it's just very nice to let plants do their thing naturally. At our allotment society has rules on maintenance and overgrowth, so we tend to prune things regularly throughout the season to avoid getting the dreaded "notices". also - it’s the biodynamic way to grow roses up apple trees so we planted them all next to each other and now they’re doing their own thing (didn’t prune them this winter)

Absolutely it's the way, especially if you have a rose that's a climber. Also it looks great, and they support each other. We don't have climbers at the allotment, but it's a beautiful mix! How do you manage harvesting apples with the rose thorns intermingling, btw?

this is the first year but i doing it will be an issue - just the same as picking roses - these aren’t crazy thorny
