Storytime with arfs: I smoked for something like 25y. The day I found out my wife was pregnant, I quit. It's been close to 2y now. Haven't had a smoke since. I was super-skeptical of e-cigs (and hated them), but nevertheless I got one. Took a few months to get used to, but it has helped immensely. I was surprised to see no such channel existed on farcaster, and I think a support network for anyone trying to quit, or people with questions, or just a channel for vapers in general, should definitely be a thing here. So here we are. Enjoy responsibly! πΊπ

Nicely done Arf! I'm almost 7 years quit myself. I quit all of it, smoking, vaping, and nicotine consumption of any kind. For me it was when my son was 3 and we went outside to go drive and pick up my wife and he asked "daddy are you having smoke before we get mommy?" It just killed me inside and I prepared for a few weeks after that and quit cold turkey. Smoking is so bad man, great job on kicking the habit.

Thank you so much brother! And thanks for sharing your story! π That's amazing to hear how you quit, and kudos for that. Couldn't have been easy, but I'm so glad to hear you've kicked it all now. Cold turkey is hard but best, I did that too--no prep though, just decided and quit. It's the whole combustion & tar & chemicals thing that really got to me. Didn't want my house reeking of fucking smoke while my wife was pregnant, nor my daughter to be exposed to any of that second hand crap.

Appreciate it bro! It was definitely hard at first, but now I donβt even bat an eye or have a thought/craving about them thankfully. Itβs wild in hindsight, we pay a lot of money to speed up the rate at which we die, just for some βstress relief?β When we know that itβs really not relief with what itβs doing to our bodies, only gives a little temporary feeling of relief. Iβm happy that most kids these days are moving away from it. I told my son that if he doesnβt smoke/vape that Iβll give him $1000 on his 18th birthday. So far itβs enough $ to keep him happy with the bet, although with inflation I suspect that may change through his teenage years π€£

That's some nice incentive! You're right, I've paid a lot of money over 25 years of smoking... has it lessened my stress? Maybe it has at the time, but it's also shortened my life & risked all sorts of health issues. Never thought I'd quit, but the moment you put your mind to it, it's not as hard as it seems!
