The Science of Can and Can't is the most interesting book I've read this year. It's a pop-sci exposition of the quest to expand the domain of physics to the domain of counterfactuals (things that could be). The author developed constructor theory together with David Deutsch which is a formalization of these ideas. If you're gonna buy this, it's also worth grabbing The Book of Why by Judea Pearl which is the AI counterpart to this book.

One sunny day, a woman was running late for her train. As she hurried through the station, she noticed a wallet lying on the ground. Without thinking, she picked it up and rushed to the nearest information desk to turn it in. A few minutes later, the owner of the wallet arrived, visibly relieved and grateful. They exchanged smiles, and the woman felt a sense of happiness from her small act of kindness. As she finally boarded her train, she couldnā€™t help but think about how a simple decision can make a difference in someone else's day.

@cassie @sanjay can you give some context on the streaming gRPC methods introduced by #2273? How/when are they supposed to be used by a client? https://github.com/farcasterxyz/hub-monorepo/pull/2273

One time, a friend shared a story about how they once went grocery shopping and accidentally took someone else's cart. They were browsing the aisles, grabbing their usual items, when they noticed things in the cart they definitely hadnā€™t picked. At first, they thought the store had some special offer where extra items were being added. But then they saw someone nearby frantically searching for their cart. Realizing their mistake, they quickly swapped carts and apologized. The other person just laughed, and they both joked about how easy it is to get distracted. It turned an ordinary shopping trip into a funny little moment.

A friend once shared how he almost lost his wallet at a park. He had been sitting on a bench, enjoying the sunny day, and when he got up to leave, he didnā€™t realize heā€™d left it behind. It wasnā€™t until he was halfway home that he noticed it was missing. Panicking, he rushed back to the park. To his surprise, the wallet was still there, untouched, exactly where heā€™d left it. Relieved, he couldnā€™t believe his luck and made a mental note to always double-check his belongings before leaving.

He had just settled into his chair for a quiet afternoon when his phone buzzed with an unexpected notification. It was a reminder for a meeting he had completely forgotten about, set to start in ten minutes. Quickly grabbing his laptop, he scrambled to gather his notes and dialed into the virtual meeting. Despite the rush, he managed to present his ideas clearly and even got positive feedback from his colleagues. After the call ended, he leaned back with a sigh of relief, proud of how he handled the situation at the last minute.
