Fig is kinda most interesting food, they are not actually fruits they are flowers but inside-outside and bees playing essential role on growth of them,

as you know the prophet was an Arab, naturally while islam developing, it has been effected from the Arabic culture, all muslims should consider the prophet as a sample human (according to Islam)for theirself, so basically they are eating dates during the ramadan because prophet did same thing

What’s the significance of dates? I’ve always wondered why they eat them after fast in Ramadan.
