6/ But P2P payments = regulation. Phantom could now face: 📜 AML/KYC rules ⚖️ Consumer protection laws 🌎 Jurisdictional compliance It’s no longer just a neutral wallet interface.

5/ Why does this matter? Fintechs like PayPal evolved from payment processors into consumer financial platforms. Phantom is following a similar playbook—keeping users within its ecosystem.

4/ Enter P2P payments. Instead of relying on dApps, Phantom is building its own consumer finance products. This shift moves Phantom from an on-chain access point to a financial services provider.

3/ So, what’s next? Phantom can’t just keep adding chains to drive growth. Wallet adoption depends on compelling dApps—without them, even the best wallet struggles to gain users. That means Phantom needs to find a new way to own its growth trajectory.

2/ Adding chains isn’t enough. For a chain to be viable, it needs: ✅ Deep liquidity for seamless swaps ✅ Secure bridges for asset transfers More chains = higher security risks + more UX complexity.

1/ Phantom grew 5x to 10M MAU in 2024 by expanding from a Solana-only wallet to six chains. But with 60+ L2s on Ethereum alone, how sustainable is chain-driven growth?

3) It takes the focus away from the technology behind (decentralized ledger) and increases the hurdle to adoption from “trying out this new tech” to “joining this new cult”. What do you think? Are there merits to the “Web3” branding? Or does it do more harm than good for you?

We should stop calling it “Web3” 1) No one knows what exactly Web3 means. Ask 100 people and you’’ll have 100 different answers. 2) It creates and us vs them mentality that isolates and separates from the everyday people we want to reach. Are “Web3” users and developers not using “Web2” products?

5/ User Retention 🔄 In Web3, users can easily switch wallets. Phantom must: - Deliver best UX & security 🛡 - Consider gamification 🎮 (daily check-ins, points) - Innovate constantly: no traditional moats in self-custody

2/ User Adoption 📈 Phantom grew 5x in 2024 thanks to: - More chains, more users 🌐 (ETH, Polygon, BTC, Base, Sui added) - Memecoin mania 🚀 drove traders to self-custody - No native token: utility > speculation

3/ Business Model 💰 Phantom makes money from swap fees, fiat onramps, cross-chain bridging, and staking. But its strategic move is in entering B2B via acquisitions: - Bitski (NFT infra) → Monetizing marketplace & enterprise solutions - Blowfish (Security) → B2B revenue via security tooling
